Mules help deliver Amazon packages to remote area of Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon, Arizona — It doesn’t get more “Arizona” than this. According to Amazon, mules are helping deliver packages to the bottom of the Grand Canyon.

Members of the four-legged delivery team have been providing transportation in and out of the canyon as well as supplies for the people of Phantom Ranch for many years. Since then, they have also become postmen and delivery partners.

Amazon says deliveries are only available to Phantom Ranch employees who live and work there. These employees also order supplies for guests and hikers.

According to Amazon blog, packages are delivered four days a week, with the delivery process beginning before sunrise to avoid the heat. The mules travel a few miles down the canyon to reach the Phantom Ranch area, which is only accessible by footpath or via the Colorado River.
