Dolan Springs, Arizona (3TV/CBS 5) – A woman has been charged with 43 animal cruelty charges after authorities said they found dozens of dogs confined and abandoned without food or water at her home in Dolan Springs.
The Mojave County Sheriff’s Office Animal Enforcement Service was monitoring complaints of animal hoarding at two homes in Dolan Springs. Officers said some animals were attacking livestock in the area. Both homes belonged to 77-year-old Betty Huxel, who was taken into custody on Jan. 11 for several subpoena violations and failure to appear in court.
Officers searched both Huksel’s homes and found a total of 43 dogs that lived inside. Authorities said several dogs were emaciated, neglected and trapped inside the house or in cars on the property, with no access to food or water. The floor was covered in feces, trash and urine, according to the Mojave County Sheriff’s Office. Officers took several dogs to an emergency veterinarian and took the remaining animals to the Mojave County Animal Shelter.
In addition to her violations and arrests, Fuchsel has also been charged with 43 felony animal cruelty charges.
