Staten said Warren passed away just 48 hours after returning to the Bibb County Correctional Center. It is still unclear why Warren was transferred or who made the decision. Mr. Staten said he did not know Mr. Warren had been returned until Mr. Warren's attorney, Marceline Angwin, told Angwin that Mr. Staten had been found unresponsive in prison. Stated.
“I don’t know why they would send him back to Bibb County,” Staten said. “His lawyer doesn't know, nobody knows. But his son wasn't there 48 hours before he died.”
Warren's death is being investigated by ADOC's Law Enforcement Services Division, and Staten believes someone intentionally harmed her son. Warren is scheduled to return home on January 9, and Staten told APR that he is already planning to get a job at a steel mill and buy his own home to take care of his children. Ta. She said her son is serious about trying to better his life and is not a liar.
Ms Staten admitted that the experience had taken a toll on her, as she had to take antidepressants after her son's death, hardly slept or ate, and struggled every day. However, Staten is determined to get her accountability and justice against Warren.
“His death will not be in vain, so I hope there is some awareness of this,” Staten said.
