It's an exciting new year for motorists who take US93 between the Phoenix area and Kingman as the Arizona Department of Transportation moves forward with one major project and begins another to increase capacity. Dew.
The current US 93 widening project near Wickenburg is 50% complete. And by summer, one of his largest U.S. 93 improvement projects in recent years will begin west of Kingman, with construction work beginning on an interchange that will freely connect U.S. 93 and Interstate 40.
These U.S. 93 projects are among many that ADOT plans to begin, continue, or complete across northern Arizona in 2024
The Kingman Interchange is planned to eliminate delays that can occur for passenger and truck traffic on the major route between Las Vegas and Arizona. Currently, traffic must be stopped at the traffic lights where Beale Street and Interstate 40 intersect, but interchanges between the systems will feature ramps that allow traffic to flow freely.
The interchange is scheduled to open in 2026 and is designed to accommodate anticipated traffic growth over the next 25 years. For more information about the Kingman Exchange Project, please visit: azdot.gov/WestKingmanTI.
The current US 93 project near Wickenburg is halfway completed as work continues to convert a 5-mile section of two-lane road into a four-lane divided highway. Work on the Wickenburg area project is expected to continue until 2024, with lane restrictions limited to nighttime hours to minimize traffic impact. Since 1999, ADOT has completed 19 projects modernizing Wickenburg and I-93. ADOT's long-term vision calls for the construction of his four-lane divided highway the entire 200 miles between Wickenburg and Nevada. More projects are expected to be built on US 93 in the coming years as ADOT continues to work towards realizing its vision.
ADOT's five-year transportation construction program from 2024 to 2028 includes the following additional projects: converting US 93 into a four-lane divided highway;
- Fiscal Year 2024: Cane Springs Area Mileposts 106-109.5.
- 2026: Mileposts 190.5 to 193.5 in the Vista Royal area northwest of Wickenburg.
- Fiscal Year 2027: Big Jim Wash Area Mileposts 161.7 to 166.2
- Another project, scheduled to begin in 2026, calls for adding passing lanes to U.S. 93 between mileposts 171.5-173 and 175.5-177.
In addition to US 93, ADOT plans to begin, continue, or complete several major projects in 2024 that will improve travel to, from, and within Northern Arizona, including: is.
Pavement and bridge repair work continues on a 49-mile southbound stretch of Interstate 17 between Flagstaff and the Coconino county line. Construction on this busy highway will begin in spring 2022 and continue through fall 2024. For more information, please visit: azdot.gov/I-17 southbound.
Construction will begin next summer on a one-mile widening of SR 69 in Prescott. ADOT will work with the Central Yavapai Metropolitan Planning Authority to add three lanes in each direction of the highway between Prescott Lakes Parkway and the Yavapai Connector and raise the median. The $56 million Interstate 15 First Bridge Replacement Project near Littlefield in northwestern Arizona continues and is expected to be completed by spring 2024. This challenging project in the Virgin River Valley will provide a safer Interstate 15 bridge that will operate with two lanes in each direction. Work began in February 2021. Work has begun to replace the Queen Creek and Waterfall Canyon bridges on US 60 just east of Superior. The project, like the nearby Pinto Creek Bridge replacement project, will require a series of daytime highway closures for rock blasting operations. Completed two paving projects totaling 49 miles on SR 95, covering a 23-mile stretch between I-40 and SR 28 and a 26-mile stretch between I-40 and Lake Havasu City. Work on both projects is expected to begin in 2023 and be completed in early 2024.
Repair work begins on the SR 87 Coyote Wash Bridge at milepost 375, approximately 40 miles north of Winslow.
A major I-17 improvement project continues north of the Phoenix area to improve safety and efficiency on 37 miles of Arizona's busiest highway. The construction includes eight miles of flex lanes between Black Canyon City and Sunset Point that can carry either northbound or southbound traffic, depending on which direction has the busiest traffic at the time.
