Sgt. Joseph Bunting said it sounded like a sonic boom | News

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) — Santa Cruz County Sergeant Bunting said Tuesday his department received one 911 call reporting a loud noise. He said he heard it, and another lawmaker said he heard it too.

Bunting said in his experience it sounded like a sonic boom.

Interview with Santa Cruz County Sergeant Joseph Bunting

“I heard a loud double boom. I kind of knew what it was,” he said in a Zoom interview with News 4 Tucson's Corus Nylander. It's “like a double boom, basically a buzzing sound when you break the sound barrier. I've heard it in this area before. To the west of our location, the Air Force You go there and fly, or the military is known to go there and fly.”

Bunting said he had never seen or heard the plane.

“If it was a really significant event, we would definitely publish it on our social media platforms and advise residents that they heard a sonic boom. … Some people don't even know what it is, but… , it sounds like a loud explosion, but that's the phone call we got.”

Bunting said the caller drove around the area where he heard the loud noise and didn't see anything unusual.

News 4 Tucson contacted Customs and Border Protection and was told that nothing was done to cause the noise. We also reached out to Hermosa Mine and Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, but neither responded.
