Pima Blue Ribbon Jail Commission Seeks Public Feedback

The Pima County Adult Detention Center Blue Ribbon Commission is seeking public input regarding the county jail. online survey It opened on December 26th.

The county will collect responses until Jan. 13, 2024, and the commission will analyze the results for inclusion in a final findings report to be submitted to the county administrator on Jan. 31.

The survey asks general questions about respondents' overall knowledge of prisons and their conditions.

Respondents are encouraged to: Read the commission's first draft findings It was submitted to County Administrator Jean Lescher on Dec. 22.

Lesher created the commission in early 2023 after County Sheriff Chris Nanos asked the oversight commission to fund construction of a new jail. The 10-person committee, made up of experts in the construction industry, criminal justice, and law enforcement, held several public meetings over the summer and compiled data and other findings to inform its findings. This report focuses on her three areas: Prison operations and capacity. and improvement options and funding.

The survey includes questions about the three focus areas of the initial survey results, as well as an open-ended question in which respondents write their overall opinion about prisons. This study is anecdotal. The results will allow the commission to know the views of those who took part in the investigation, rather than the general public. Survey link.
