Child thwarts attempted kidnapping, suspect flees

YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – According to the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO), an 11-year-old girl escaped the clutches of her kidnappers.

Specifically, the incident occurred at approximately 8:51 pm on Saturday, December 17th.

The incident also occurred near E. 34th Street and S. Payson Drive.

YCSO then responded to the scene when it learned the 11-year-old was driving a gray early 2000s suburban SUV.

Additionally, the sole driver of the SUV described in the press release is a stocky Hispanic man with thick curly hair, a beard, and smells of alcoholic beverages.

When the driver of the SUV made a U-turn and parked, the suspect got out and followed.

While talking to her, the girl noticed him, but went straight to her house.

Ultimately, the suspect grabbed the child’s shirt collar and tried to lift him into the SUV.

However, the child escaped, ran into the house, and the suspect fled.
