LAKE MEAD (KTNV) — Several areas around Lake Mead National Recreation Area are being upgraded.
Lake Mead Mojave Adventures on Wednesday announced it has signed a new 25-year lease to continue operating Cottonwood Cove Resort & Marina. As part of the lease agreement, there is also a $10 million redevelopment plan to improve the existing facility and add new equipment.
The marina plans to add 46 covered slips and add covers to 74 existing slips. There will also be a 400-foot-long free dock for boats along the south end of the North Beach swimming area. An overhead cover will also be installed at the refueling dock.
The plan includes converting the 6,000-square-foot property into 250 storage spaces for boats about 60 feet long and 15 feet wide. His current RV park will be redesigned to accommodate larger RVs with side pop-outs. Officials are also planting desert plants that will grow in the future and provide shade.
Employee housing areas and all 24 motel rooms will be renovated. Employee dormitories and housing will feature new flooring, bathrooms, furniture, water-saving fixtures and energy-efficient lighting. It will also add six new mobile housing units. Motel rooms will be upgraded to rooms with larger bathrooms and new flooring. Porticos and covered walkways will be reinstated, and electronic keycard locks will be added to all room doors.
The current cafe will be expanded into a pub, and the retail store will include a 15-foot-wide covered outdoor patio area.
The new Ski Cover private beach area will also feature 20 rental cabanas, company officials said. An ADA-compliant fishing pier and an ADA-compliant Mobimat have been added to allow more guests access to the fishing pier. We are also adding Level II electric vehicle charging stations in public parking lots.
“One of Southern Nevada's best-kept secrets is that this long-term redevelopment plan opens a new and elevated experience at Cottonwood Cove Resort & Marina,” said Chad Taylor, Director of Marketing and Guest Experience. I'm very happy about that.” “This transformation is a testament to our passion for providing a best-in-class experience for our guests and the best employment opportunities for our dedicated team members.”
As of Wednesday, Lake Mead Mojave Adventures officials had not provided a timeline for when these projects would break ground, how long they would take to complete, or when they would open.
