Sellers prioritize free and fair elections, infrastructure, housing, workforce development, and budget solutions
Jack Sellers has been unanimously elected as the new chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. In his “Handover of the Gavel” speech, Sellers cited elections, infrastructure, housing, workforce development and budget transparency as his top areas of focus for the year ahead.
“My top priority in 2024 is to provide county election teams with the resources and support they need to continue to conduct lawful, free, and fair elections in March, August, and November.” Mr. Sellers said.
As the country prepares for a competitive election cycle in 2024, Sellers believes that “the eyes of the free world will once again be on Maricopa County,” and that cooperation and unity among county departments will continue to improve. It has become even more important.
He urged the public to help in the upcoming election by registering to be a poll worker, early voting processor, truck driver or volunteer at GetInvolved.Maricopa.Vote.
Beyond the election, Speaker Sellers has prioritized expanding Arizona's economy by “developing the critical infrastructure necessary for future success.” This includes planning and investment in roads and transport systems, broadband and water supplies.
Taking steps to address housing insecurity is also a priority. “We want community members to have empathy and a clear understanding of who is suffering during this housing crisis,” Sellers said. “That's our teachers, our veterans, and increasingly our seniors. I assure you that we will continue to support the county's efforts to meet the housing needs of our community.”
While the county is already investing in affordable housing, Sellers said it must also prioritize workforce development. He is committed to providing fulfilling careers for job seekers as well as providing employers with a qualified workforce to support Arizona's growing economy.
“Next year, we will continue to dedicate resources to educating and training our residents for jobs that lead to meaningful careers and provide livable wages,” Sellers vowed.
Finally, the Chair recognized the Public Safety Funding Citizens Commission to “consider long-term funding options for our nation’s public safety and criminal justice systems” and ensure transparency and good value for taxpayers. announced its establishment.
“Keeping in mind that the state faces a revenue shortfall, we must be careful to ensure that the state's budget solutions do not negatively impact county services,” Sellers said. “Over the coming months, I will work closely with elected leaders and department heads to develop projects that are impactful, efficient, conservative and important, but also strategic priorities for the county as a whole.” We're going to create a county-wide budget that focuses on.”
Mr. Jack Sellers has served on the Board of Supervisors representing District 1 since taking office in February 2019, and served as Chairman in 2021. He currently serves as Chairman, succeeding Clint Hickman.
