Man, 79, struck, killed crossing street in Tucson

A 79-year-old man was struck and killed while crossing the road in Midtown Wednesday night, Tucson police said.

Gunji Toriyama was in a crosswalk crossing East Pima Street at North Luke Avenue west of North Wilmot Road around 6 p.m. when he was struck by an eastbound Dodge pickup truck, Tucson police said. police announced in a news release Thursday.

The 33-year-old driver of the pickup truck is cooperating with authorities and is being cited in connection with the crash, according to a news release. Police did not identify the driver.

Police say Toriyama is the fourth pedestrian to die in Tucson this year.
