As the political battle in 2024 intensifies, supporters are beginning to gather. Congressman Anthony Daniels made his first public announcement over the weekend, garnering support from the Professional Firefighters Association in his race for Alabama's 2nd Congressional District.
“We are honored to receive recognition from the Firefighters Association. Their support is a testament to our commitment to serving working class heroes who prioritize public safety,” Daniels said. said in a statement. “This endorsement is especially meaningful to me because firefighters make selfless sacrifices every day to serve all members of our community.”
The Professional Firefighters Association, as its name suggests, is the Alabama chapter of the National Union of Firefighters and represents thousands of firefighters across the United States and in Alabama. According to the union's website, the union supports training and education and works to ensure public safety-minded elected officials represent firefighters.
“I want to recognize the true everyday heroes who make a real and profound difference in all of our lives, especially when it matters most, when every second counts.” said Daniels. “These unsung heroes, our first responders, and most importantly our firefighters, go above and beyond to ensure our safety and the well-being of our families during times of crisis. ”
Daniels is generally considered the favorite in CD2, but early voting has revealed that there are many undecided voters in the newly drawn district. CD2, which required states to redraw district lines, was ultimately settled by the U.S. Supreme Court after it was determined that black voters were being discriminated against and unfairly marginalized.
The new district is likely to be Democratic, with 12 candidates vying for the Democratic nomination.
