Justice Sarah Stewart picks up endorsement from GOP, community leader John Killian

Conservative grassroots leader Dr. John Killian has endorsed Associate Justice Sarah Stewer for the Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice position. Killian is a long-time member of the Alabama Republican Party and a valued leader in the community.

“I know her personality and her beliefs,” Dr. Killian said. “I know her record too.”

“I know her very well. I really do,” Killian said. “She's a fine Christian woman. But she's also a very effective administrator.”

In addition to being a judge on the state Supreme Court, the chief justice is also the head of the entire Alabama judicial system and makes many important decisions, including the appointment of court system administrators.

“People don't realize, but that's the biggest part of their job (as chief justice). She's qualified for the role.”

“It is truly an honor to have the support and support of Alabama politicians like John Killian and so many conservatives in the state,” Judge Stewart said. “I am grateful for his support and recognition of my record as a conservative judge.”

Killian is the chairman of the Fayette County Republican Party. He served as immediate past president of the Alabama Baptist Convention from 2012 until 2014. He currently serves as the mission director for the Fayette Society. He previously served as pastor of Maytown Church for 19 years. He also served at Sharon Heights Church in Birmingham and First Church in Bold. He taught in the extended course at New Orleans Theological Seminary.

Stewart has served on the Alabama Supreme Court since 2018. Before he served on the Supreme Court, he served as a circuit court judge in Mobile County for 13 years. She received her law degree from Vanderbilt University and her bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas, where she served as president of the student government.

Stewart is running against former state Sen. Brian Taylor in the March 5 Republican primary, but incumbent Chief Justice Tom Parker is not seeking re-election.

The winner of the Republican primary will face Democratic candidate Judge Greg Griffin in the general election on November 5th.
