‘Malcolm In The Middle Star’ Bryan Cranston Recalls Stunt That Could Have Killed Him

Bryan Cranston appeared on “The Graham Norton Show” on Friday to recount the harrowing experience of a near-fatal stunt on the hit comedy “Malcolm in the Middle.”

Appearing on the program Posted Cranston spoke on YouTube about an episode in the second season in which his character, in a bout of depression, becomes obsessed with painting, and Cranston is completely covered in blue paint. “I was completely covered in blue paint. From head to toe, I was completely covered in blue paint,” he recalled.

The actor is the debunked myth of Shirley Eaton's death, in which it was rumored that she died of suffocation after being painted gold while filming the 1964 James Bond classic Goldfinger. He pointed out the similarities. Contrary to legend, Eaton is alive and well to debunk the myth of death by body paint. “I was going to say that's not safe, Brian,” said Bryce Dallas Howard, who also appeared on “The Graham Norton Show.”

“It's not safe,” the “Breaking Bad” star responded. “If you cover all your pores, your body won't be able to regulate heat.”

“While we were filming, we were moving around, and at some point it felt like a part of me started breaking the circuit,” Cranston explained. “Then they boomed, grabbed me and threw me in the shower, and they were just…weird.”

Presenter Graham Norton commented: “It's a very slow way to kill someone.”
