The federal government is investigating a riding lawnmower incident in 2015. Fires in Maricopa last year.
The Maricopa Fire and Medical Department used 300 gallons of water to extinguish a lawnmower fire on Rancho El Dorado Parkway on July 21, 2023.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, according to fire department records obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request. There were no injuries.
Now, half a year has passed since then, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Investigators are investigating why the lawn mower caught fire and whether the model is dangerous. The agency works to protect consumers from unreasonable risks and harm from defective or violating products.
CPSC Product Safety Investigator Mary B. Notch sent a letter to the Maricopa Fire and Medical Department on Jan. 16 requesting photos and an investigation report regarding the mower fire.

The model of lawn mower that caught fire was an ExMark Radius E series owned by ProQual Landscaping, said Jeremy Bader, the company's operations manager.
