‘Equality and justice for all’ – Yuma honors Martin Luther King Jr.

Yuma, AZ (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma community walks together for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The walk started this morning at the Union Baptist Church on 8th Avenue and ended at the MLK Center on 3rd and 13th Avenues.

This year’s theme is “Equality and Justice”.

Attendees included YPD’s new Chief Thomas Garrity, County Supervisor Lynne Pancrazi, and former State Legislator Charlene Fernandez.

Also in attendance was Yuma City Councilman Mike Shelton, who was especially pleased to see many young Yuma people walking.

“They have to be part of history every year. Those who don’t remember history are doomed to repeat it,” Shelton said.

NAACP Chapter President Elanor Sails thanked everyone who attended and hopes to see even more Yuma youth next year.

“We’re trying to line up these streets for kids so they can participate,” Sayles said.
