Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies shot and killed a man Tuesday morning who allegedly attacked a gas station clerk with a machete before threatening customers at a supermarket.

The man reportedly attacked a Chevron employee in Lancaster around 3 a.m., according to co-workers. ABC7. According to ABC7, the victim cut his hand and bled when he ran out of the store, but a customer drove him to the hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. After the alleged attack at Chevron, the suspect reportedly walked one block into an Albertsons supermarket and began arguing with a customer.

“I walked into the store and there was a guy arguing with a customer, and I noticed he had something like a machete next to him,” an Albertsons employee told ABC7.

According to ABC7, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department said in a news release that when they arrived at the Albertsons, they found the suspect standing outside with a backpack containing two machetes.

Officers tried to calm the suspect down, but he “became agitated and grabbed both machetes in his hands,” ABC7 reported.

According to ABC7, the suspect refused to drop his weapon and a tense situation escalated inside the store, where officers taped him twice before charging him and fatally shooting him. That's what it means.

“We heard gunshots and everyone started running to the back and we got out in the back,” said the Albertsons employee. “This is the worst experience I've ever had,” the employee added.

Authorities said three deputies were involved in the shooting, which occurred near 9:30 a.m., but no civilians or deputies were injured, ABC7 reported.

The suspect's name will be released after next of kin is notified, the newspaper said.
