Congressman Terry Sewell announced that additional funding has been secured to improve school safety.

Six public high schools in Choctaw, Greene, Marengo and Sumter counties will split a $1.2 million check that Sewell personally delivered last week to help improve security, training and knowledge across their campuses.

Sewell said the funding came from the U.S. Department of Justice's School Violence Prevention Program.

“I think a lot of the violence we see in schools is because we don't teach our kids how to resolve conflicts without combat. I don't have kids, so I'm really excited about this today.” , there's 100,000 kids in my district, and that's my kids, our kids, and I think that's really important. ” Sewell said.

Sewell too reportedly helped secure funding for the University of Alabama's School of Nursing this week through the U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration's Nursing Expansion Grant Program to “support the University's goals of growing and diversifying Alabama's nursing workforce.” , donated a $3.5 million check from the federal government.
