YUMA, AZ (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) has arrested an illegal immigrant on suspicion of murder.
According to a press release, the incident occurred in the Mohawk Mountains on September 7, 2022 at approximately 8:17 pm. In addition, he dialed 911 for both possible murder of someone and assistance for his inability to continue walking through the desert.
When YCSO responded to the scene, they learned that the suspect, victim, and caller were part of a group of Mexican immigrants who entered the United States illegally.
Border Patrol agents then arrested one of the group’s members. A member told them that their guide, his 34-year-old man, may have hurt someone in the group.

Border Patrol agents then responded to the area and found the victims. However, they did not identify any suspects. They believed he was back in Mexico.
A YCSO search and rescue team then responded and recovered the body, and the Criminal Investigation Service took over the investigation.
After further interviews, the YCSO arrested the suspect and held him in the Yuma County Jail on January 16, 2023 on second-degree murder charges. A Border Patrol agent previously detained a suspect on suspicion of illegal entry, leading to his arrest.
However, YCSO will not identify victims until they notify their next of kin.
