Sedona Heritage Museum Hosts Speaker Neil Weintraub

sedona news – The next speaker in the Sedona Heritage Museum’s popular Sedona Stories series is Neil Weintraub. Neil will be speaking “History of the Grand Canyon Stagecoach Line” on Thursday, February 29th at 10 a.m. in the museum's Apple Shed.

Neil Weintraub is a longtime runner and former archaeologist from the Kaibab National Forest. He will present the history of the Flagstaff to Grand His Canyon stagecoach line, which ran from 1892 to his 1901. Although the line was in operation for only his 10 years, before 1901 it played an important role in attracting tourists to northern Arizona and the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon Railway has reached the rim of the canyon. Today, this important piece of northern Arizona's history lives on every September when hundreds of runners and mountain bikers make the 160-mile journey that parallels the route of the Arizona Trail. Much has changed in northern Arizona since 1901, but the beautiful landscape of the Stagecoach Route between Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon looks much the same as it did when it first appeared to tourists in 1892.
