The Republican-led House Education and Workforce Committees on Friday announced subpoenas against Harvard University in an investigation into recently escalating anti-Semitism on college campuses.
The committee, chaired by Rep. Virginia Foxx, Republican of North Carolina, announced an investigation into Harvard and other universities on Dec. 7, following hearings on anti-Semitism at Harvard and other universities. “I am extremely disappointed in the path Harvard University has chosen in its committee's investigation,” Fox said in a statement. “Over the course of this investigation, Harvard University has touted its willingness to cooperate with the committee, citing thousands of pages of documents produced by the committee. At least 1,032 pages (more than 40 percent) of the 2,516 pages of documents produced in response to the principle investigation had already been made public. Quality, not quantity, is the committee's concern.
“Last week, I made it clear to Harvard that the documents it had produced to that point were woefully inadequate. I felt that subpoenas would be warranted if the university continued to miss the mark. It warned that it would have ample opportunity to correct course before enforcement action was taken. Unfortunately, Harvard University did not heed the committee's warnings and once again failed to comply with the committee's demands. I couldn’t,” Fox added.
Fox said in its recent response that Harvard did not provide sufficient documentation for two of the committee's four “priority requests.” The university's responses to the other two requests “contain significant deficiencies, including glaring omissions and questionable editing.”

sent by fox letter On January 9, it requested documents from Mr. Pritzker and Mr. Gerber regarding the university's response to anti-Semitism on campus. According to the committee, Harvard initially produced 24 documents, mostly from information already available to the public, such as letters and handbooks, Fox said. Said “It was woefully inadequate.”
chairman warned On February 7, Harvard University announced the committee's intention to subpoena the university if it does not satisfactorily respond to its “priority requests” by Wednesday. Fox then issued a subpoena on Thursday, asking “what actions Harvard is taking to ensure that Harvard's Jewish students feel safe and welcome on campus. It asked Harvard to submit information relating to 11 key areas of the document aimed at revealing whether or not it has done so.
The subpoena seeks “all reports of anti-Semitic acts and incidents and related documents and communications since January 1, 2021.”
At a Dec. 5 hearing after the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel, then-Harvard University President Claudine Gay and other Ivy League executives said anti-Semitic chants violated the code of conduct. I didn't say whether or not. After widespread pressure to resign, Gay resigned on January 2, citing “racial hostility” and without an apology.
