Suspect arrested in connection with fatal shooting in Somerton

SUMMERTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma County Sheriff's Office arrested a 21-year-old woman for investigation of a fatal shooting in Somerton and she appeared in court Friday.

A 21-year-old boy was identified by the Yuma County Sheriff's Office as a suspect in the case.

On February 15, she was arrested and booked into the Yuma County Jail.

On Friday, she learned she was charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of drug sales.

“At this stage, we will set a secure appliance bond of $1 million,” Judge Stewart said.

The incident occurred on February 6th. Authorities responded to the intersection of B Street and County 18th Street for a report of a vehicle crash and shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers found a male victim, identified as 18-year-old Isa Granillo of Yuma, Arizona, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Granillo was rushed to Yuma Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Local residents say they are worried.

“I'm very worried. I'm very worried because I imagine we're here, just two old people. No… it's bad,” said Esperanza, a resident of the area.

Other local residents were also shocked by the news.

“Well, we don't know what young people are doing right now. I don't think even parents know what their kids are doing. They think they're doing well, and then all of a sudden… You say, 'Oh, what are they involved in?'' said community member Rosella Velazquez.

The woman is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
