Tyler Perry put his $800 million studio expansion on hold after realizing the power of artificial intelligence (AI).
In an interview Thursday, the celebrated artist said his experience with AI's Sola forced him to pause plans to add 12 soundstages to the 330-acre property. hollywood reporter.
“It feels like everyone in the industry is running 100 miles an hour, trying to keep up, trying to put up guardrails,” he said.

Mr Perry's plan has been in the works for four years, but he is unsure whether it will move forward. The famous actor and filmmaker was surprised by the technology released on February 15th and realized that it will inevitably affect the future of his development.
“It's one thing to be told it can do all these things, but to actually see what it does was shocking,” he told the publication. With the advent of this technology, there is no need to go to locations or build sets, he said.
“If you want to be in the snow in Colorado, that's text. If you want to write a moon scene, that's text, and this AI can generate it like it's nothing,” Perry said.

“If I want to spend two people in my living room on the mountain, I don't have to build a set on the mountain. I don't have to put a set on my property. To be able to sit in my office and do this on my computer is just… It’s shocking.”
“I had no idea until recently when I saw a demonstration of what it could do,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.
Regarding the ability to create art, Perry said the advances have been incredibly helpful, but there are growing concerns from a labor and employment standpoint.
“We need some regulation to protect us. Otherwise, I don't know how we will survive,” he said.

Perry used AI in two of his films and detailed the benefits of the new technology.
