According to FOX2 Detroit, law enforcement was called in to stop the brawl and de-escalate tensions.
Edsel Ford Principal Rima Hassan said in a statement Friday that there was an “on-court scuffle” in the final minutes of the game and how the situation “quickly heated up and an altercation ensued.”
Hassan said Dearborn police are considering whether charges of disorderly conduct or assault should be filed, but praised Edsel Ford staff for controlling the crowd of fans, FOX 2 Detroit reported.
“The staff did an excellent job following safety protocols and making sure there were no injuries,” Hassan said in a statement. “We understand that sometimes individuals get heated and this can lead to physical altercations. We encourage you to discuss with your child what to do if this situation arises. Please.”
According to FOX2 Detroit, Hassan denied that a weapon was used during the scuffle after a Woodhaven fan made a comment about “guns.” No weapon was found on the court, the newspaper said.
