A male fish of the species Danionella cererum, which is about the size of a fingernail, can apparently make a sound as loud as a gunshot, scientists claimed in December 2023.

This 12mm long fish is native to Myanmar, and research shows it can make noises exceeding 140 decibels. published Claimed in PNAS Journal. This is basically the equivalent of a jackhammer, an ambulance siren, a rifle shot, or the impact most women experience when they stub a toe or break a nail. This sound is produced through the fish's swim bladder, a gas-filled organ used to control its slight buoyancy underwater.

Somewhat interestingly, this fish has the smallest brain of any known vertebrate, so my interpretation of the study results is that male D. cerebrum literally pisses with a tiny brain. vocally, and definitely comparable to males of other species. (i.e. some human males).
