CBS News reports that a high school football brawl in Los Angeles caused local authorities to ban both teams from postseason play.

The game came after Birmingham Community Charter High School defeated El Camino Real Charter High School 2-0 on the outlet. report.

Several players were seen throwing haymakers in an all-out brawl that was apparently provoked.Sports commentators say even players and coaches were involved. Jose Duran.

“There was a lot of heckling, but that's part of the game. This is a rivalry game,” BCCHS senior Damien Lopez told CBS. (Related: Naked woman gets involved in scuffle on beach)

According to CBS, the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) has changed its view and ruled that both teams will be disqualified from the next round of the playoffs, the CIF Southern California Boys Soccer Regional Tournament.

“It's not fair,” Lopez told CBS. “A lot of us are seniors, but all of us, especially the guys that played, stayed calm. It’s not fair to us.

Unfortunately, however, both schools decided to accept the punishment.

“We all understand,” Lopez told CBS. “We have to get through it. There's nothing we can do now.”

He also lamented the fact that the team would be known more for fighting than for winning.

“Nobody knows what a great game we played,” Lopez told the magazine. “Birmingham will now leave as a team that has fought and lost everything.”

I think about how that child feels. Especially for teammates who weren't actively involved. Banishing them from the playoffs entirely is a harsh punishment. This ruling means many children have just played their last soccer game ever. It is really a pity.
