The staff at ChaBones Steakhouse and Tapas Bar remains humble after winning the Golden Ladle last year.
General Manager Cameron Moses co-owns the facility with his mother, Laurie, and is no stranger to philanthropy. Moses describes how Parker's mother's involvement in the Soroptimist organization influenced his upbringing.
Participation in philanthropy began in Moses' childhood and remained with him throughout his life.
“We are thrilled to be able to help support Soroptimist this year,” Moses said. “Soroptimist is a place near and dear to my heart.”
Winning last spring's Southwest Chowderfest didn't change the restaurant's support for Soroptimist. Moses talks about how supporting the organization is a major priority.
Last year, Moses said he prepared two types of chowder: a traditional New England clam chowder and a southwestern poblano and chicken chowder. In the latter, a mixture of diced chicken, roasted poblanos and peppers satisfied the taste buds.
Deviating from tried and true recipes comes with risks and must be carefully calculated, Moses says.
“We know that the taste of food is very subjective. In fact, when we make chowder, we always ask ourselves, 'Are we making a traditional chowder or are we making a variation on a chowder? ?’” Moses said. “We might make little tweaks to keep it fresh, but people like what people like.”
Moses, who will celebrate the restaurant's 19th anniversary in June, is hoping to see some familiar faces this weekend. At past Chowderfest events, Moses was also able to sample chowders from local establishments.
Moses' support for the Soroptimist organization in Lake Havasu City extends into the community. He encourages residents to recognize the importance of the group's mission.
“Soroptimist is a great organization. We do a lot of work on issues that are largely forgotten or not necessarily in the mainstream, supporting women, children and families,” Moses explained. “We'll be happy to help.”
