A Lake Havasu City man was arrested last week after he was seen on surveillance footage entering the victim's vacant home in violation of a court order.
On March 2, officers were called to a home under construction in the 2000 block of Lapeer Lane for a suspected trespassing incident. Police said the caller told dispatchers they saw movement on surveillance footage at the scene throughout the early morning hours. The suspect, identified by police as 27-year-old Damien M. Trumbull, had previously been issued with a protection order by the homeowner.
Responding officers found an open door in the back of the residence. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the front door of the home was unlocked. Officers reportedly found a collection of clothes, shoes and blankets in the living room of the home, indicating that someone may have been staying at the location without the homeowner's permission. It is said that it was shown.
Neighbors told police they saw lights turning on and off inside the unoccupied house.
The homeowner reportedly gave police permission to search the home, and officers soon found the woman (whose identity was not disclosed in the police report) under a blanket on a bed in the home. .
An officer reportedly held the woman at gunpoint, and the woman reportedly yelled Trumbull's name as if she believed he was also there, police said. .
The officer holstered his weapon and physically removed the woman from the residence, the report said. Officers then awaited the arrival of additional law enforcement officers to clear the remainder of the building. Trumbull was not found at that time.
When questioned, the woman told police she was staying at the location with Trumbull and did not know his whereabouts at the time.
The homeowner reportedly pinged Trumbull's cell phone and called police soon after. The victim admitted that Trumbull may have been at the grocery store on McCulloch Boulevard shortly before speaking with investigators, the report said.
Officers responded to the scene and found Trumbull's car there. Law enforcement officers entered the store and found a man with a cart full of groceries.
Police questioned Mr Trumbull at the scene, but he initially denied being at the Lapeer Lane address. Trumbull later admitted to staying at the address and eventually told police he had been there with the homeowner's permission, according to the report.
Trumbull was arrested at the scene on one count of misdemeanor failure to comply with a court order.
Trumbull pleaded guilty Thursday and was sentenced to unsupervised probation, according to Lake Havasu Municipal Court records. He was also fined $732 for this violation.
However, as of Friday, Trumbull remained in custody at the Mohave County Jail on $2,500 bail on unrelated charges of drug possession, prescription drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
