Texas teens discuss witnessing shark attack, praying for Alabama victim

A group of high school graduates from Sulphur Springs, Texas, rushed to the scene where a Mountain Brook, Florida girl had been attacked by a shark and lost an arm and a leg. When they realized she needed help, they helped pull Lulu Gribbin out of the water.

They appeared on East Texas news station KLTV to talk about their experiences, what they witnessed and the power of prayer.

“I think when something happens where you realize there are things bigger than yourself and you're able to help other people, it connects to community,” said Ali Faircheek when asked about the biggest lesson she's taken from the whole incident. “I never thought I'd end up communicating with the people of Birmingham, Alabama.”

Ali and the other girls shared their experiences of what she saw and how God played a role.

“She tried to get her legs out of the water and that's when we noticed she had been bitten on her lower leg,” Kate Monk said. “That's when we knew we had to act. We had to bandage her leg to stop the bleeding.”

“I made eye contact with one girl for the first time as she came out of the water and she was really panicked and really scared,” Faircheek said. “I wanted her to know that I was talking to her, so I reached over and grabbed her face and said, 'If you'll let me, I want to pray for you, let's pray,' and she said yes.”

“Looking back, I'm so glad that God placed us at that time, at that moment, to help and comfort those girls,” Monk said.
