First look: Auburn trustees approve new $25 million videoboard

The Auburn University Board of Trustees has given final approval to construct a new video board in the north end zone of Jordan-Hare Stadium. Announced in a June summary of the board's meeting on Monday.

The project, originally approved in February at an estimated cost of $25.7 million, is scheduled to break ground within the next two months and be completed before the start of the 2025 football season.

Jordan-Hare's current north end zone video board was installed in 1987 and is difficult to see from the other side of the stadium.

“We thank the Auburn University Board of Trustees for their continued support of Auburn University athletics and the Auburn University family,” Auburn University athletic director John Cohen said in February. “This video board project marks not only a major step in our efforts to improve the aesthetic balance and enhance the acoustic experience in the north and south end zones of Jordan-Hare Stadium, but more importantly, it will continue to modernize the fan experience for our fan base.”

“This will also provide spectators in the south end zone, including student seating, with the opportunity to have an unobstructed, front-on view of our state-of-the-art video board,” he added.

The school estimates that the new videoboard, which boasts approximately 7,300 square feet of LED space, will be roughly two-thirds the size of Jordan-Hare University's south end zone videoboard – making it the sixth-largest videoboard by square footage in the Southeastern Conference and among the top 20 collegiate videoboards in the country.

Birmingham-based LBYD Engineers, which built the south end zone video board in 2015, was selected to lead the project.
