Finebaum on Urban Meyer: ‘The worst of everything imaginable’

The full ballot for the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame nominees was released this week.

Seventy-seven players were nominated, but only nine coaches received the honor, two of whom were arguably the two best coaches of their era, Nick Saban and Urban Meyer.

But according to SEC Network and ESPN's Paul Finebaum, the two aren't quite on the same level.

During an appearance on “The Opening Kickoff,” broadcast weekly on 105.5 WNSP-FM in Mobile, Finebaum was asked who he would choose if he could only vote for one of the two coaches. He didn't mince words.

“I think it's a no-brainer because one coach has won seven national championships and is an exemplary man in everything he's done and everything he stands for. He's an exemplary man of integrity and the other coach is basically the worst in every way imaginable,” Finebaum said, comparing the two men.

“He lied and he misled people,” he said of Meyer. “I know Urban Meyer won three national championships, but more than that, it's embarrassing to even be mentioned in the same context as Nick Saban.”

Meyer, of course, had great success at nearly every school he played for, winning two championships at Florida and one at Ohio State, but when comparing the two, Finebaum said Meyer doesn't even come close to being Saban's greatest player of all time.
