The Birmingham Amphitheatre isn't even finished yet, but anticipation for the new venue is already building in the Magic City.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the facility was held on Monday by the venue's owner, the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC). BJCC Chairman Michael Keel spoke at the ceremony.
“This new facility will be a great complement to the BJCC's existing entertainment venues, which include Protective Stadium, Legacy Arena, BJCC Concert Hall, City Walk Birmingham and numerous other smaller venues,” Keel said.
State Sen. Jabo Waggoner (R-Vestavia Hills), who represents the district in which the amphitheater is located, also spoke out.
“This is another exciting day in Birmingham history! It takes a village,” Waggoner said. “The City of Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama Tourism, BJCC, Greater Birmingham Convention & Visitors Bureau, Live Nation and others worked together to make this event possible.”
“This is a big change for our community.”

Mayor Randall Woodfin said he hopes the facility will improve the overall quality of life in Birmingham.
“We're all excited about having a new place to see concerts, but what I'm most excited about is what impact this will have on the entire Northside neighborhood,” Woodfin said. “It will be a hub that will inspire other development and improve the quality of life for local residents and the entire city.”
Birmingham Amphitheatre is due to open in June 2025. It will create up to 300 jobs and be operated by entertainment giant Live Nation. It is expected to accommodate up to 9,380 audience members at a time and host around 20 shows over the summer.
The venue is located near the former Callaway Hospital site in Druid Hills.
