Douglas couple dies of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning

TUCSON, Arizona (KGUN) — A couple died near Douglas on Tuesday of possible carbon monoxide poisoning. Both were 47 years old.

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office said the sheriff’s deputy and Douglas fire brigade were dispatched to a home on the 3000 block of Hawthorne Avenue in Bay Acre.

Neighbors told authorities that the child was outside the house and was trying to enter it.

First responders broke into the house and tested carbon monoxide levels, which were twice the lethal limit.

Sunnyside Fire responded to the scene as hazardous materials may be present.

Crew members determined that an outdoor heating unit was being used in the house and lacked proper ventilation.
