‘I believe that God was watching over me’ – Alabama couple unharmed after tree branch crashes into home

A Jefferson County couple is thankful they were completely unharmed after a tree fell on their home, sending branches through their bedroom roof just feet from where the residents were sleeping.

Shawn Shubert and his fiancée, Loreley Harper, who moved into the home just two months ago and plan to get married in the coming months, said how grateful they are after their close call.

“I believe God was watching over me. I had an angel on my shoulder because things could have been 100 percent, 1,000 percent worse than they were,” Harper told ABC 33/40.

Schubert said she's just happy her fiance is safe and that the damage to her roof is nothing compared to that.

“I'm glad she's OK. We're getting married here in a few months. I already call her my wife, so she's OK,” Schubert said.

While the damage to the roof can be repaired, the experience was a reminder for the couple just how dangerous weather can be in the Yellowhammer State, even when they're inside their home.
