Eddie Murphy Gives Update On Long-Awaited ‘Shrek 5’ Film, Announces ‘Donkey’ Spin-Off

Renowned actor and comedian Eddie Murphy has teased fans with new information about the upcoming 'Shrek the Fifth' and also debunked rumors about a 'Donkey Kong' spin-off.

Murphy announced in a recent interview that the highly anticipated Shrek 5 is currently in production. ColliderFans have been waiting 15 years since the last Shrek movie was released, and this year marks the 23rd year since the first movie in the series was released. [Shrek] “We did this five months ago,” Murphy told Collider. “We did this, we recorded the first act. We're going to do it this year, we'll get it done,” he said. There's no official release date yet, but judging by Murphy's response, it sounds like the film is in the final stages and is due to be released soon.

“Shrek” fans have high hopes that all of their favorite characters will soon return with a new storyline and a series of fun new adventures.

Murphy also teased that the beloved and silly Donkey character will return in an all-new incarnation. Shrek fans will be delighted to see the hilarious Donkey return in his own standalone movie. According to Collider, Murphy has also announced that he is developing a film starring Donkey, which will reveal new sides to the character as he goes on an adventure.

“Shrek is coming out, and Donkey is going to have his own movie,” Murphy said. “We're going to do Donkey, too. So we're going to do Shrek, we're going to do Donkey.”

The famous actor confirmed that he is not shooting both movies at the same time, but both are in the process of being filmed and more news is expected to be announced in the coming days. (RELATED: Eddie Murphy Quits Stunts)

“I've started shooting Shrek, which I think will come out in 2025, and then I'm shooting Donkey next,” Murphy told Collider.

As fans wait for more information following this double announcement, the countdown to more laughs begins.
