The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Monday that Totally Cool is recalling several ice cream products due to possible Listeria contamination.
The Maryland-based company is recalling ice cream brands including Hershey's and Friendly's after the FDA says they may have contained the deadly bacteria Listeria. AnnouncedAccording to the announcement, the recalled products were distributed through drop-shipping and retail outlets nationwide.
“Following FDA testing that revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes, Totally Cool has discontinued manufacturing and distribution of the affected products,” the statement said. “The company continues to investigate and is taking preventative measures.”
Ice cream pints, cakes, cones and sandwiches were recalled from brands including Cumberland Farms, Chipwich's, Abilene's Frozen Bakery, Jenny's, Yellow!, The Frozen Farmer, AMAFruits, Taharka, Dolcezza Gelato, LaSalle and Marco. according to The FDA also recalled some of these brands of sherbet.
The FDA also provided expiration dates and factory codes for the recalled products.

Anyone who owns any of the recalled products is encouraged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
The FDA said Listeria can be “severe and sometimes fatal” for older adults, young children and people with weakened immune systems, and that healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as “high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea,” it added.
According to the FDA, Listeria is also known to cause stillbirth and miscarriage in pregnant women.
