Tuberville: ‘We’re not running daycare centers on our college campuses’

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) condemned the anti-Israel occupations and encampments seen at many universities across the country.

The former Auburn University football coach blamed administrators at some schools for making the problem worse.

“Well, I've literally spent 40 years on college campuses, and in the northern part of the country, in blue states, we have animals running around in zoos,” Tuberville told Fox Business on Thursday. “They have no control. They have no leadership. You know, we're not running a daycare on a college campus. These kids have to be held accountable. If you want to protest, you can protest, but do it the right way. Don't harm other people. Don't get in the way of other people. You were talking about a young woman potentially not getting her degree because school was canceled.”

Tuberville co-sponsored the Campus Offender Relief Ban Act with Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas), which would prevent so-called “relief” from being granted to anyone convicted of a federal or state crime “related to an individual's conduct during or during protests held at an institution of higher education.”

“But Tom Cotton and I have introduced a bill that says, 'If you're arrested for protesting, you don't even have a chance to get President Biden to give you a tuition waiver,' which is illegal, by the way. We have to do something to stop these kids,” Tuberville argued. “But these kids are not kids. They are clearly adults. The reason this isn't happening in the South is because we tell them not to do this. Not to disrupt business and day-to-day operations.”

The senator also accused Joe Biden of emboldening agitators on college campuses with his policies and rhetoric.

“Joe Biden is staying neutral,” he said. “He wants to get votes from both sides. He's pushing the narrative a little too much here. He's bringing the Gazans to the United States, but Saudi Arabia, Egypt, none of those countries are really identifying with the Gazans, and they don't want anything to do with them. But Joe Biden is going to bring him in. He doesn't care what happens to the American people, he doesn't care what happens to our country. He just wants power. He wants to be re-elected. And also, he's getting a lot of flak for what's going on. He thinks this will get him more votes in some places, like Detroit and Minneapolis.”
