The University of Alabama is moving forward with the latest phase of “The Crimson Standard,” a series of construction projects designed to improve athletic facilities for multiple sports teams across the university.
The latest project is the construction of a massive player facility for the golf team, which resembles a giant dorm.
The project also includes a full course at the facility and is expected to be completed by fall 2024.
The facility has been a topic of discussion among Alabama fans for years, with plans to build a new basketball arena to replace Coleman Coliseum being delayed multiple times due to inflation and the economy.
Athletic Director Greg Byrne expressed optimism about the basketball project last month, saying the university has been successful in raising funds and plans for the arena have not been cancelled.
“From a fundraising perspective, the last few months have actually gone pretty well. We've continued to work with our development team and received some very generous donations from our backers,” Byrne said. Ryan Fowler March.
“And then, of course, we need to make sure that it works out financially and that the whole department isn't put in a very tough financial situation,” he added. “But this is still a priority for us and it's still something that we're raising money for. So I can honestly say that we've had very positive conversations on the financial side and on the fundraising side.”
Crimson Standard is said to be in the second phase of a 10-year, $600 million plan that will also include golf and basketball facilities.
But despite the challenges, the golf facility appears to be nearing completion, and Tide fans will be hoping that basketball will take center stage.
