Strong blasts DHS secretary for abuse of parole at the border

Rep. Dale Strong (R-Huntsville) believes Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas committed impeachable offenses in his handling of the parole system at the southern U.S. border.

Rep. Strong voted in February to impeach Secretary Mayorkas, saying, “I look forward to the evidence presented to the Senate and urge my Senate colleagues to remove Secretary Mayorkas from office for the harm he has caused to the American people.”

Although the House of Representatives impeached the Secretary of Homeland Security by a vote of 214-213, the Senate has yet to hold an impeachment trial against him.

Strong recently said: Washington Examiner editorial There is plenty of evidence that Mayorkas is guilty.

“[A]”Further circumvention of the rule of law is being promoted through what Mayorkas has repeatedly and erroneously called 'legal migration pathways,'” Strong said. “These efforts include mass parole, meaning that rather than arresting, detaining and deporting unauthorized aliens, the Biden Administration is releasing them into our country in large numbers.”

The congressman said Governor Mayorkas is not following the law by releasing an “unprecedented” number of illegal immigrants on parole rather than detaining them.

“US immigration law requires the detention of illegal border crossers and allows parole only temporarily on a 'case-by-case' basis,” he said. “Instead of enforcing this law, Mayorkas has created numerous mass parole programs in violation of the law to implement the Biden Administration's capture and release policies. Many of those released into the interior will effectively remain here.”

“Under his watch, the Department of Homeland Security recorded at least 1.7 million parolees, an unprecedented number. He told the House Judiciary Committee in July that those numbers were consistent with past examples, though his own Border Patrol agents disagree.”

Strong said these parole programs only exacerbate the crisis at the border.

“Mayorkas' mass parole plan will only encourage more illegal immigration,” he said. “Encounters of inadmissible aliens at immigration checkpoints increased by more than 100% nationwide from fiscal year 2022 to fiscal year 2023. He continues to double down on illegal activity, despite knowing the consequences.”

The entire Alabama Republican delegation joined Strong in voting to impeach Mayorkas.
