Two Children Among Five Killed In Plane Crash: REPORT

New York State Police (NYSP) announced that five relatives from Georgia were killed in a plane crash in upstate New York on Sunday afternoon, according to ABC News.

Police said the dead ranged in age from 76 to 10 years old and belonged to the Beggs and Van Epps families. reportTwo of the dead were reportedly children.

Authorities searched the area with drones, helicopters and ATVs and identified the plane as a single-engine Piper Malibu Mirage, according to ABC News. Citing police, the outlet reported that the family had been on their way back to Atlanta after a stop in Cooperstown, New York, for a baseball tournament.

“Following this heartbreaking tragedy, we are mourning the loss of our family. Our hearts are broken yesterday after receiving the tragic news that Ryan, Laura and James Ryan, Harrison Van Epps and Laura's father, Roger Beggs, were involved in a fatal plane crash,” a believed relative, Ansley Van Epps, wrote on Facebook. “As we learn of this tragic news, please join Marty, his daughters and me in praying for the loved ones of the Beggs and Van Epps families. Our hearts go out to all who knew and loved them,” Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp tweeted about the tragedy.

ABC News reported that the exact cause of the crash remains unknown. The New York Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Crash Reconstruction Unit and Forensic Identification Unit are investigating the matter in cooperation with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Board (NTSB), the news agency reported.
