Authorities are investigating the death of a retired Marine general whose body was discovered Saturday, according to the New York Post.
The death of retired Rear Adm. William Mullen, whose body was found at the Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, California, is being investigated by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). according to Mullen, 59, was found dead on Saturday, according to the New York Post. NCIS has opened a full investigation into the circumstances of Mullen's death, the New York Post reported. NCIS spokesman Darwin Lamb stressed that the agency is committed to a thorough investigation, but declined to release details to protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation.

“I can confirm that NCIS is conducting a thorough investigation into the death of retired Rear Admiral William Mullen in response to a non-combat, unmedical fatality involving Navy and Marine Corps personnel, military personnel and involved civilians,” Lamb said in a statement, according to the New York Post. “Out of respect for the investigative process, NCIS will not be commenting further while the investigation is ongoing.” (Related article: Fourth time's a charm? Mullen served 34 years in the military, including a stint as training and education commander, before retiring in 2020, according to the outlet. His military service included tours in the Middle East and commanding a counter-narcotics mission in Los Padres National Forest in California. He also served as a Marine aide to President Bill Clinton from 1999 to 2001.
