A date has been set for the next round of approvals BNSF needs to move forward with construction of a major Valley community complex, but nearby residents have been fighting against the project for years.
Texas-based BNSF Railway, in partnership with real estate giants CRG and Kroenke Group, wants to develop a 4,300-acre freight transportation complex and industrial center with 18 million square feet of warehouse space.
BNSF reversed course when it filed for a major comprehensive plan amendment. Rezoning with Maricopa County The company canceled the project in late May instead of moving forward with the annexation and rezoning by the city of Surprise as originally planned. A technical advisory meeting on the project was held with Maricopa County officials on July 2 to address the company's initial application.
The project is scheduled to be voted on at the Maricopa County Planning and Zoning Commission on Nov. 7 and later this year at the county Board of Supervisors meeting on Dec. 11. Neighborhood meetings are expected to be held in July or August.
