The family of Rachel Morin, the mother of five who was allegedly raped and murdered by an illegal immigrant, has accepted an invitation from former President Donald Trump to attend the upcoming Republican National Convention.
Maureen's family, which includes her half-sister, her two youngest siblings, three brothers and many other relatives, will all be attending the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee next week. according to According to the Baltimore Sun, Maureen's half-sister, Erin Layman, will speak at the event Tuesday night about Rachel and the immigration enforcement policies surrounding her death. “This is a huge honor because I want to make an impact in Rachel's name,” Layman told The Baltimore Sun. “I want to give Rachel the honor she deserves in all of this and I want people to know our story and see our family together.”
Morin's death drew attention last month after a suspected killer was discovered living in the United States illegally and arrested.

Morin, a 37-year-old Maryland resident and mother of five, was raped and murdered along a hiking trail in August 2023. Oklahoma law enforcement officials finally arrested Salvadoran national Victor Antonio Martinez Hernandez in June and charged him with Morin's murder.
Authorities confirmed at the time that Martinez-Hernandez was also wanted for the murder of a woman in his home country and had entered the United States illegally before killing Morin.
This isn't the first time Trump has reached out to Maureen's family. Rachel Maureen's mother, Patty Maureen, said last month she was “deeply moved” by the former president's call to offer her condolences. She said Trump's words “brought comfort to me during this very difficult time.”
Morin's family is pleased that her death has brought public attention and says her story will help bring about positive change to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
“There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of people like Rachel across America, and we all have to do our part to make a difference,” Josh Morin said, according to The Baltimore Sun. “This is 100 percent political, because politics created this problem and politics will solve it.”
During his campaign, Trump made a point of highlighting and reaching out to other “angel” families — families killed by illegal immigrants.
The former president featured the family of Laken Riley at a campaign event in Georgia in March, about a month after she was allegedly killed by an undocumented immigrant while running around the University of Georgia campus, and just before taking the stage to debate President Joe Biden last month. He called The mother of Jocelyn Nungarei, the 12-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered by two illegal immigrants.
Giving a platform to victims of illegal immigration crimes and their families is something President Trump has done for years. Speaking at the National Border Patrol Council in February 2020, then-President Trump said: I gave up time For Dalia Ortiz, the granddaughter of a 92-year-old woman who was raped and murdered by an illegal immigrant in New York City.
