According to the New York Post, the famous singer explained how the whole thing unfolded and how she ultimately came to the decision to choose David Crosby over Pitt as the sperm donor for Bailey and Beckett's children.
“He's been a friend for a long time. People would ask me, 'Who is Brad Pitt to you?' and I'd say, 'Well, he's the father of my children,' and I'd joke around with him,” Etheridge told the outlet.
“When Brad Pitt was younger, it was obvious he wanted kids. He loved kids. He would come over to my house and actually play with my kids,” she said in the interview.
“I didn't want someone who wanted to be a father to be a donor because I think a donor would want to be involved in your life,” she added.
“I wanted to be the other parent,” Etheridge told the New York Post, “but it just didn't work out.”

Etheridge decided that Crosby was the perfect fit.
“he [a father]” she told the New York Post.
“And what it really revealed to me was that he was going to say, 'Yes, I'm the biological father.' My kids call him 'biological dad,' so he is the biological father, but my kids didn't need a relationship with him,” she said in the interview.
Etheridge joked that her children often asked her why she made that choice.
“And I was like, 'You couldn't have been you. What are you talking about?'” Etheridge told the New York Post. (Related: 20-year-old JoJo Siwa says she found a sperm donor and got a “tattoo” representing her future child's name)
