The trailer for the upcoming horror movie starring Demi Moore was released on Thursday, and it's absolutely insane.
“The Substance” premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival where it received a 13-minute standing ovation. according to Deadline. And, Teaser Trailer From Mubi's perspective, it's easy to see why this strange film is so successful.
Described as a “bold feminist take on body horror,” the film stars Demi Moore, Dennis Quaid and Margaret Qualley as Moore's character attempts to revive her fading celebrity status with the help of a black market drug called The Substance, which replicates cells to temporarily rejuvenate and create a better version of herself.
The production team seems serious about using liminal space here, and frankly, it's about time writer-director Coralie Fargé reinvented herself: she's already won Best Original Screenplay at Cannes, and it seems like she's hit the right balance of quirky and topical to be lauded by critics and moviegoers alike. But we're in the midst of a cinema apocalypse now. People don't want to go see movies in giant sweaty rooms full of strangers. We want to be quietly and peacefully (and cheaply) entertained at home. But whether I see it in the theater or on a streaming service, this is one of the few horror movies I'm genuinely looking forward to.What do you think?
