Armed Man Wearing Ski Mask Reportedly Nabbed By Authorities Near Republican Convention Security Perimeter

An armed man wearing a ski mask was arrested by authorities on Monday after approaching the security perimeter at the Republican National Convention (RNC), according to multiple reports.

Milwaukee police arrested a 21-year-old man, whose identity has not yet been released, for possessing an AK-47 pistol and magazines in a tactical bag a few blocks from Fiserv Forum, where Republican lawmakers and supporters have been gathering since Monday. according to To Fox6Now.

The 21-year-old man was reportedly arrested around 1 p.m. and authorities said he did not have a concealed carry weapon permit from Wisconsin or any other state. Charges are pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.

The arrest comes shortly after five Columbus Police Department (CPD) officers shot and killed local resident Samuel Sharpe Jr. during a fight with another individual on Tuesday about a mile away from the Republican National Convention. according to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that the Secret Service had contacted Milwaukee and Columbus police after the incident and confirmed that the shooting “was not determined to have been initiated by the Republican National Committee,” the paper reported.

Brian Steele, president of Capitol City Lodge Chapter 9 of the Fraternal Order of Police, said no officers were injured during the incident and that only Columbus authorities were involved in the incident.

Both incidents near the Republican National Convention came on the heels of an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump that left 50-year-old former volunteer firefighter Corey Comperatore dead and two other members of the crowd injured, David Duch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74.

Milwaukee Police, the Department of Homeland Security and the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
