MSNBC hosts Rachel Maddow, Joy Reid and Jen Psaki sat in front of large LED video screens during their coverage of the Republican National Convention (RNC), giving the false impression that they were broadcasting live from the event in Milwaukee.
MSNBC personalities covered the four-day convention from their Manhattan headquarters. according to To the New York Times.
“If news organizations don't clearly communicate where they stand, how can viewers trust and have confidence in what the stories are actually about?” Frank Sesno, a media veteran and former CNN Washington bureau chief, told the outlet.
“It may seem like a frivolous thing – Oh, well, it's just a background photo – but there's something deep and important here.”

MSNBC sent only “Katy Tur Reports” host Katy Tur and “The 11” host Stephanie Ruhle at 2 p.m.Number She will report from the scene at Fiserv Forum on “One Hour with Stephanie Ruhle” at 11 p.m.
MSNBC reporter Jacob Soboroff was also at the Republican National Convention when Donald Trump Jr. called him a “clown” on Monday for asking about “family separation” and told him to “get out of here.” (Related article: Joe Scarborough riles upsets others, saying Biden is still in the race because his aides are benefiting from his “financial” interests)
Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, in an interview with CNN, criticized MSNBC for the false impression that Maddow, Reade and Psaki were actually at the Republican National Convention on Thursday night.

“It's so good to see you. Thank you so much,” said CNN host Jake Tapper. “Well, first of all…”
“And you're actually here live!” Rubio interjected.
“We broadcast it live, and the other networks just have big LED TVs — I'll leave out the names of the LED TVs,” Tapper replied, to which the senator laughed.
On Monday, MSNBC pulled the plug on “Morning Joe,” less than 48 hours after the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. CNN reported that the cable news network made the decision over concerns about inappropriate comments made by guests, but an MSNBC spokesperson denied this when contacted by the Daily Caller News Foundation.
The next day, “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough slammed his network on air, declaring that the next time MSNBC decided to air a news feed during his show, “we're either in charge of the news feed or we're going to get somebody else to host the show.”
