Yvonne Furneaux Dead At 98

Yvonne Furneaux, who made her name in films such as Fellini's “La Dolce Vita” and Polanski's “Repulsion,” has died aged 98.

Furneaux's son, Nicholas Nato, said of her death: The Hollywood ReporterOn July 23, he told the magazine that his mother died on July 5 at her home in Northampton, New Hampshire, due to complications from a stroke. The glamorous actress had a major role in Hollywood during the 1950s and '60s and left an indelible mark that will live on for many years to come.

Furneaux worked alongside some of the most famous stars of Hollywood's Golden Age, including Laurence Olivier, Christopher Lee and Errol Flynn.

This captivating actress appeared in films like See You Tonight and La vie de Monte Carlo in 1952, but Furneaux's breakthrough came in 1955 with The Friends, which was a hit at the Venice Film Festival. The celebrated actress played the female lead in the 1959 epic horror film The Mummy, starring Peter Cushing and Lee, before starring in Fellini's legendary film La Dolce Vita in 1960.

By that time, she was a bona fide Hollywood star with legions of admirers and loyal fans.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Furnox starred in Polanski's 1965 film “Repulsion.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the star's impressive acting resume includes stage appearances in Macbeth and The Taming of the Shrew, as well as productions in The Beggar's Opera, House of the Arrow and playing Flynn's mistress in The Master of Ballantrae. She also appeared alongside Flynn in Crossed Swords.

Other notable appearances include “Lisbon,” “Doctor Mabuse's Death Ray” and “Champagne Murders.”

She met her future husband, French cinematographer Jacques Nato, while filming The Count of Monte Cristo, and the two married in 1962 and remained together until Nato's death in 2007, according to The Hollywood Reporter. (Related article: Celebrity agent to the stars Don Buchwald dies at 88)

The talented star is being remembered on social media as fans and loved ones pay tribute to a lifelong career he achieved in the spotlight.
