A brawl broke out at the Houston Texans' training camp on Wednesday during practice after a player punched a teammate, Fox News reported.
During practice, star cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. violently tackled tight end Dalton Schultz, sparking a heated argument. according to The incident, which quickly escalated into a large-scale skirmish between team members, according to Fox News. video The incident happened on the heels of a violent play involving new wide receiver Stefon Diggs and safety Jimmie Ward.

According to Fox News, Stingley was apparently reacting to an earlier incident in which Schultz intervened after Diggs was violently punched by Ward. The sequence of events led to Stingley lunging and jumping at Schultz, knocking him to the ground. No fistfights ensued during the initial collision, but practice was briefly halted as teammates and coaches tried to calm the situation. Texans defensive backs coach Dino Basso commented on the incident. “He's a competitive kid,” he said, according to Fox News. “He enjoys those one-on-one moments. I think that's the No. 1 thing for a cornerback. You can't teach that as a coach, but he's born with it, so it's a good trait.”
Stingley, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Louisiana State University, has quickly established himself as a key player for the Texans. In 11 games so far, Stingley has recorded 13 passes defensed, 39 tackles and five interceptions, according to Fox News. The Texans are optimistic about Stingley's performance throughout the 17-game season and are hoping he can further improve on his already impressive ball-hawking skills.
