Kamala Harris’ TikTok Splash Looks Huge Until You See Donald Trump’s Follower Count

Vice President Kamala Harris made waves this week when she launched a TikTok account, but that hasn't done much to dispel former President Donald Trump's outsized influence on the platform.

“When I heard I was on the 'For You' page I thought I should be on there too,” Harris wrote in her first TikTok post. Harris' page also features her cameo on the hit TV show “RuPaul's Drag Race,” where she stopped by “The Workroom.”

Since Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee, her campaign has been the focus of a number of trends associated with Gen Z, including “Brat Girl Summer,” named after Charli XCX's new album, “Brat.” (Related: More than a quarter of Gen Z identify as queer: poll)

The comment quickly became a meme online, with social media feeds flooded with remixes and edits of the clip.

Trump has garnered more than 9 million followers, more than 23 million likes, and nearly 500 million views from just five posts, while Harris has garnered about 57 million views and just over 6 million likes from just four posts.

Trump's first post alone garnered more than 165 million views, more than 9 million likes, and nearly 300,000 comments.

Though Trump has a bigger social media presence on TikTok than Harris, media outlets have praised Harris for her social media debut and trending.

When it comes to President Trump's social media presence, the media has not focused on the effectiveness of his campaign, but rather dissected his policy record.
