Gila Valley Pioneer Days are back!

Graham County – Join us for the two-day Gila Valley Pioneer Days Triumph Ceremony on Friday and Saturday, July 22-23.

For the first time since it was shut down due to the pandemic, a full list of Pioneer Days activities awaits Gila Valley next week.

Jon Johnson Photo/Gila Herald: As with the 2019 celebrations, this year’s Gila Valley Pioneer Days celebrations will end on a high note as usual.

The event kicks off with a pickleball tournament in Thatcher on Friday, July 22nd from 6-9am mixed doubles and men’s and women’s doubles on Saturday, July 23rd. The cost is $20 per team.Click here to register for mixed doubles,click here men’s doublesclick here women’s doubles.

Variety shows are back, and tickets are $3 each. The show starts at 4:30pm on Friday, July 22nd at the Safford Center for the Arts. Click here to buy tickets.

Scheduled events include Boot Races, Stick Horse Races (bring your own stick), Cowhide Races, Oiled Pig/Chicken Tracks, Cowboy Musical Chairs, Ribbon Ropes, Mormon Team Ropes, and more. Check out the video to see previews of some of the events.

Friday’s festivities conclude with a family dance from 8:30 to 10:30 pm in the Thatcher Elementary Schoolyard at the corner of Fourth and Second Avenues.

Saturday’s event kicks off with a 5K run starting at Thatcher High School at 6am. The cost is $15 per person. Click here to registerA 1-mile fun run was also carried out in conjunction with 5K.

Coeducational volleyball tournaments are scheduled from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm in various school gymnasiums. The competition has three levels and costs $50 per team. Click here to register for Volleyball Tournament.

Three-on-three basketball tournaments are scheduled in various school gymnasiums from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., have four divisions, and cost between $20 and $40 per team depending on division. Click here to register. Hurry up. Registration deadline is July 19th at 5pm.

The annual parade, with this year’s theme, “Let Us All Press On,” gathers in the Thatcher High School parking lot at 5:00 p.m. The parade then continues down Stadium Avenue and ends at Thatcher Ballfield.

Following the parade, the EAC’s John Mickelson Stadium will serve a $6 BBQ dinner and other food, along with games for the kids. At dusk, a fireworks show concludes the weekend’s events. For more information, Click here for Pioneer Days website.
